Repositioning a regional food hub for long-term food security.

When growth outpaces identity
Over the past 30 years, Geelong Foodshare has grown into one of Victoria’s six regional food hubs.

Operationally, the organisation was scaling successfully. Strategically, it had evolved beyond emergency food relief toward long-term food security and systemic change.

The impact was significant.

While the organisation had evolved, its brand and digital presence had not kept pace.
When this happens, the challenges are often subtle but important:
Funders fail to see scale

Government partners unable to recognise alignment

Teams lack clarity around the future vision

Geelong Foodshare didn’t need reinvention. They needed a clearer way to communicate who they had become.

The Challenge

Internally, Geelong Foodshare was operating as a regional systems leader. Externally, it still appeared as a traditional food relief charity.

Food relief addresses immediate need. Food security builds long-term stability.

Their identity and digital experience were not reinforcing this shift in ambition.

To support the next stage of growth, they required:

  • Clear articulation of long-term impact
  • Stronger positioning with government and corporate stakeholders
  • A digital experience that made donating, partnering and engaging intuitive
  • A brand that reflected professionalism and scale while retaining warmth

The Solution

Working alongside Superbold, we began by helping the organisation articulate its ambition through a clear strategic foundation.

This work was undertaken collaboratively, with Geelong Foodshare’s strong internal vision refined and supported by Tanarra Social Purpose and Arthur St, ensuring the organisation’s direction was both authentic and clearly expressed.

Brand strategy

Vision
To nurture our community with healthy food, creating impactful social change.

Mission
Creating food security through a strong network of local partners.

Purpose
Supporting sustainable long-term social change.
We also established a set of brand pillars informed by stakeholder insight:

  • Community
  • Health
  • Practical solutions
  • Empowering others
  • Professionalism

A clear tone of voice was developed to guide communications across reports, digital channels and funding conversations:
Empathetic. Reliable. Informed. Approachable. Nimble. Respectful.
This work created clarity not only externally, but internally. When teams can confidently articulate their purpose and impact, alignment and confidence follow.

UX design and website development

Rebuilding the digital experience

Brand clarity is only effective when the digital experience supports it.

Our UX discovery process included:

  • Stakeholder goal mapping
  • Persona development
  • Navigation and site flow review
  • Benchmarking against leading charity websites

Several friction points emerged:

  • Navigation created unnecessary complexity
  • Brand positioning lacked emotional clarity
  • The donation process required simplification

For an organisation built on trust and community support, friction costs more than clicks.

We redesigned the website around clear stakeholder pathways for:

  • Donors
  • Volunteers
  • Agencies
  • Recipients
  • Government stakeholders
  • Corporate partners

Design principles prioritised:

  • Clear navigation
  • Visible impact storytelling
  • Inclusive language and accessibility
  • Simplified donation flows
  • Mobile-first responsiveness

The result is a digital experience aligned with Geelong Foodshare’s strategic ambition.

The Result

With 2.5 million meals projected for 2025, 1.25 million kilograms of food distributed in FY24/25, 70 frontline agencies supplied, and 190 regular volunteers, the organisation’s impact continues to grow.

The new brand and digital experience now reflect that scale.

More importantly, they reflect confidence.
When identity aligns with capability, conversations change.

  • Funders see leadership.
  • Partners see professionalism.
  • Communities see stability.
  • Teams see direction.

Geelong Foodshare didn’t need reinvention. Like many organisations reaching a new stage of maturity, they needed their brand and digital presence to speak the language of who they had already become.

Today, it does.
